If you’re like me, you’ve probably seen these AI filters all over your feed turning a person into various bits of art. Or perhaps you’ve seen the filter where you type a couple of words in and a scenic painting is generated.

New technology, and in particular artificial intelligence, is dramatically changing the nature of art. Computers are already able to take the role of a musical instrument, a canvas, or a paintbrush, and now with AI, it can also take the role of an artist. I am a believer in the adaptation of new technology, however, I think it stands to be said that the goal of technology should be to aid humankind rather than replace it.

The current debate over AI and art is bringing to the forefront an important ethical discussion that is both imminent and necessary for the future adaption of technology and development. We must decide on our ethical boundaries as a whole before widely integrating AI into our society. What is the limit?

The debate on art and AI is a multifaceted one, encompassing both the potential benefits and drawbacks of integrating AI into the artistic process. While AI has undoubtedly introduced new possibilities and efficiencies, it also raises concerns about authenticity, human experience, and ethical implications. Striking a balance between human creativity and AI-assisted tools is crucial to ensure that art remains a reflection of genuine human expression while leveraging the benefits that AI can offer to enrich the artistic landscape. Ultimately, the role of AI in art should be viewed as a complementary tool, augmenting human creativity rather than replacing it.
