Research

brain science + genomics + artificial intelligence

I’ve had the opportunity to conduct research at 3 world-class institutions in amazing laboratory environments, both virtual and in person.

I began with interning at Duke University in the Viventi Lab where I worked on building a testing apparatus for implantable electrodes (check out video below!).

I am currently interning at the LaBella Lab at UNC-Charlotte and the Active Robotics Sensing Lab at NC State University.

I look forward to continuing this journey in research through my undergraduate career and with me to graduate school as I hope to complete a doctorate degree.

Viventi Lab – Flexible Electronics for Neuroscience

Designed and prototyped the build of a long-term use soak-testing chamber for evaluation of liquid crystal polymer (LCP) encapsulation of neural electrode arrays and associated electronics. Tested to measure solution retention and pressure leakage.

Developed exposure to academic research, and biomedical and neural engineering concepts, gained confidence in taking practical ownership of the project where relative independence was key.

LaBella Lab – DNA Genome Sequencing

Used iTOL and R to create evolutionary trees of various yeasts and tRNA codes to visualize and analyze the variation between species

Dr. Lobaton’s Lab – Active Remote Sensing (ARoS)

Used machine learning to identify patches of interest and classify images of organisms

Honors Computational Science

Used computational science to analyze real-world applications in chemistry, biology, environmental science, social sciences, and more.

Wrote a final research paper statistically analyzing the efficacy of Indomethacin for COVID-19

Honors Data Science for Scientists

Used R to complete data manipulation and analysis on real sets of data with real applications. Wrote weekly papers and lab reports on findings

Scholar Development

Conducted a literature review on the gender gap in technology roles in the Silicone Valley and globally and presented a poster with findings in a collaborative group setting
